Physical Education Programmes
Sports Education Modules
Sports and games are integral part of a student’s life. Students should play sports and games to enjoy the health and vigour of life. Games and sports help to shape character, build a sense of cooperation and team-spirit in an individual and also recognise the collective efforts of all the members of the team.
The students in each level will learn about two games each year. Games related concepts such as the use of space, maintaining possession, creating attack, organising defence, and defending space and running to bases are consciously weaved into the lessons with an emphasis on the learning and demonstration of values like integrity, respect and sportsmanship.
Fitness Education Modules
The module seeks to help stimulates our students’ interest in physical activity by making meaningful connections in health concepts, fitness principles and practical applications through experiential learning.
Outdoor Education Modules
Sec 3 MOE-OBS Camp Secondary Three students will participate in the MOE-OBS Camp. The programme seeks to provide students from different schools the opportunities to work together and overcome various challenges through outdoor adventure learning. They also create opportunities for students to develop Social Emotional Competencies of Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Management and Responsible Decision making through various team-building activities.
Sports Participation Programmes
Health Fiesta Week
Health Fiesta is a week long programme aimed to create awareness on health issues and enhanced students’ engagement in physical robustness through a variety of fun and simple activities.
The highlights include:
The culminating event for Health Fiesta week will be the key highlight of our annual Sports Carnival which has the objectives of promoting healthy lifestyle, school values, fair play and good sportsmanship. A wide array of sporting activities ranging from Parachute Volleyball, Captain Hoopball, Street Basketball, Water Soccer, Bubble Soccer, Tag Archery, Inline Skating, mass Hip Hop dance, etc will be organised. This is to enrich the sporting experiences of our students, staff and parents and in turn influence them to pick up something they enjoy and pursue an active and healthy lifestyle.
PE as an O-Level subject
The school offers Physical Education (PE) as an O-Level subject (OSIE PE and Exercise Sports Science) to our Secondary Three students. OSIEs are comparable in rigour and scope to the GCE ‘O’ Level subjects.
Students who opt for the subject can use it to apply for admission to junior colleges and polytechnics, just as they would with other ‘O’ level academic subjects. It offers students a chance to build a strong foundation for pursuing a sports-related degree or diploma. And even if they choose not to go down this path, the subject offers benefits in other areas. We hope to stretch students’ potential in which we provide them with opportunities to excel in their areas of interest.
The format of the national examination comprises two compulsory components:
- Paper 1 (E-Examination Paper) and
- Paper 2 (Coursework)
As part of the coursework requirement, students will choose ONE practical activity from EACH of the categories (see table below)
offered by the school:
1) an Individual / Dual Activity; and
2) a Team Activity.
