Parents Support Group

Yio Chu Kang Secondary School has always been proud of the strong home-school partnership that we have forged with our parents through the Parents Support Group. The main role of the PSG is to increase the ties between parents and school so as to work together to improve the work-play environment for the students. At the same time, the PSG has also been an opportunity for the parents to create bonds with like-minded parents as they share their own time and talents.

The school appreciates the contributions of the members of the current executive committee who served from December 2015 to November 2016.

Yio Chu Kang Secondary School’s Parents Support Group (PSG@YCKSS) has continued to grow from strength to strength each year. Our team of dedicated parent volunteers have contributed much of their time and effort in supporting the school in various events.

One of the highlights of this year’s activities was the inaugural Parents’ Barbeque Night, which was open to all parents. It was indeed a fulfilling night of food, fun and bonding. In addition, our PSG members have continued to support our school’s ASE (After School Engagement) programme. This year’s workshops included a Public Speaking Workshop and a Quilling Card Workshop. Based on the students’ positive response, the workshops were indeed a success as they found the workshops fun, fruitful and enriching.

The PSG was also actively involved in many school major events, including the 12th Student Leadership Lecture Series & Investiture, the 51st Speech & Prize-giving Day and the Sports Carnival. In conjunction with the Teacher’s Day celebrations, the PSG members and their families spent a couple of weekends creating Teacher’s Day cards using the art form of Quilling.  During the Staff Appreciation Lunch, all the staff members were pleasantly surprised by such a warm gesture from our parents.

In addition, they also took the initiative to carry out a number of bonding activities, in a bid to improve ties between fellow PSG members and also as a means to bond with their children. Some of these activities included monthly badminton sessions and two Nature walks - at MacRitchie Reservoir Park and Hort Park.

Many friendships have been forged. And as a testimony to these friendships, ex-PSG members have continued to return to give their support to current PSG in different ways.

The school continues to extend an invitation to all parents who are interested in being part of the Parents Support Group or would like to take part in the PSG’s informal events. All parents are invited to come on board and make a difference in their child’s educational experience. No matter how big or small, every contribution counts!

If you would like to enrol or find out more about the Parents Support Group, feel free to email Mdm Eileen Quek at eileen_quek@yahoo.com or Mdm Camilla Teo at camillateo@yahoo.com.sg.
